Water blowing polyester polyol is a component used in the formulation of water-blown polyurethane (PU) foams, where water acts as a blowing agent to create the foam's structure. The polyol reacts with isocyanate, and the water reacts with the isocyanate to produce carbon dioxide gas, which expands the mixture into a foam. These foams are used in applications like insulation (spray foam, refrigerator insulation), coatings, and other rigid and flexible PU products.

Product Overview


Polyester Polyol For All Water foaming is a water-reactive polyol designed for water-blown polyurethane foam systems, eliminating the need for hydrocarbon or fluorinated blowing agents. This polyol leverages the isocyanate-water reaction to generate CO₂ gas, enabling low-VOC, halogen-free foam production. Its molecular structure balances hydrophilic segments (for water compatibility) and hydrophobic chains (for foam stability), with a hydroxyl number of 200–350 mg KOH/g and functionality of 2.8–3.2. With a viscosity of 4,000–8,000 cps at 25°C, it supports diverse processing methods including spray, pour, and molding.

    The "water blowing" refers to the use of water as the primary foaming agent, which is a more environmentally friendly option compared to some other blowing agents. 
  • Insulation: 
    Water-blown polyester polyols are crucial for creating highly effective insulation for homes and buildings, particularly in spray foam applications, as well as for refrigerator and freezer insulation. 
  • Other applications: 
    They can be formulated for various other products, including coatings, adhesives, and different types of rigid and flexible PU foams. 
  • Tunable properties: 
    The properties of the final foam, such as density, strength, and flexibility, can be adjusted by changing the type and amount of polyester polyol and other additives used in the blend

Applications:

Rigid foam applications
  • Appliances: 
    Used in refrigerators and freezers to provide insulation and structural support. 
  • Building and construction: 
    Used for insulation in sandwich panels, boardstock, and spray foam applications. 
  • Solar water heaters: 
    Creates rigid foam insulation around the tank and pipes, which improves energy efficiency by minimizing heat loss. 
Flexible and semi-rigid foam applications
  • General purpose foams: 
    Can be used for flexible and semi-rigid foams for a wide range of products.
  • Automotive and furniture: 
    Used in applications like seat cushions and other comfort-focused products. 
Other applications
  • Adhesives, coatings, and sealants: Water-blown polyester polyols can be formulated into various CASE (Coatings, Adhesives, Sealants, and Elastomers) applications, including aqueous polyurethane dispersions and fabric coatings. 

  • Wood imitation: Used in the production of imitation wood products. 




Storage


Container: Store in airtight HDPE or stainless steel containers to prevent moisture absorption (water content ≤0.2%).

Conditions: Maintain temperatures at 5–30°C with humidity ≤60%, away from direct sunlight.

Handling: Avoid contact with strong acids and isocyanates when not in production, as premature reaction may occur.
